ITS A WRAP!

Gatsh IT.MIX AND MISS.

WE tried.WE really tried to ignore it..NO MATTER who you are..where you from, this trend is out to get us all.I caught this bug last year(thanks to  stylist JUNE AMBROSE<3) but i didnt wan' be a trend whore  follower.IT.JUST.wasnt my tingg.anwas the trend that survived, infected many tribes around the world..every And any skin colour..(watever) you wan call it the HEADWRAP/ DUGU/ TUKWI/TURBAN.
TUKWI(Botswana-Setswana language)/Turbans/headwraps have been worn throughout countless cultures. Sikhs wear these wrapped-up headpieces for religious reasons and it’s believed Arabs historically wore them to shield themselves from the desert sand and sunlight. Its uses or meaning can vary depending on the country and/or religion.

The turban is our Guru's gift to us. It is how we crown ourselves as the Singhs and Kaurs who sit on the throne of commitment to our own higher consciousness. For men and women alike, this projective identity conveys royalty, grace, and uniqueness. It is a signal to others that we live in the image of Infinity and are dedicated to serving all. The turban doesn't represent anything except complete commitment. When you choose to stand out by tying your turban, you stand fearlessly as one single person standing out from six billion people. It is a most outstanding act.SO SAYS THE SIKHS.

For US, africans, It is a connection between past and present, and between the Africans that came to the Americas as slaves and those who remained in Africa. It is a historical fashion accessory that spans from pre-slavery Africa to the wardrobes of Black women all over the world in the present day.
In Ghana opportunity to wear a duku usually falls on a religious day of Friday , Saturday or Sunday, depending on if they are Muslim, Seventh-Day Adventists or Sunday church-going Christians.
In Botswana Tukwi is worn to show respect(black) at funerals and worn in any colour for weddings.
ohkay..back to fashion..
If you have not mastered the art of tying a turban/headwrap  yourself (fromscarves and/or scrap material), June’s turban line is a great alternative as they have been creatively constructed by the “Queen of Turbans” herself.

LETTER to YIN YANG

Gatsh IT.MIX AND MISS.
Don't lose your head because you are trying to get ahead

If you are blogging to find fame and garner sponsorship then you can forget we are having this conversation obviously. but if blogging is about the individual's passion then the focus can't just be about building readership and accumulating followers.
Even if you are a professional blogger , you can still go at your own pace. focus on your own contribution, blog about things that resonates with you, and just have fun. if you are dressing in a certain way to build fans, trust me the effort will take its toll eventually no need to be a tryhard. it is better to stick to doing something at your pace than 'burning' out trying to keep up.

Regardless of what anyone tells you Fashion/Style blogging is not that 'complicated' or at least shouldn't be over thought if you are  really doing you.  All you need is a working camera (need not be a DSLR) , a willing person to take the pics (need not be an aspiring photographer/boyfriend even, or use a selftimer) and a blog to post it on.  Assuming you are the 'fashionista' you claim to be, there shouldn't be a 'put together' stage to produce editorial quality pictures. i don't know about you but i don't go to fashion/style blogs looking for editorial quality anything. i go to see their 'style' These days especially on the interweb, it is easy to mindlessly exist, to see without actually processing, to believe things we see and read without thinking.  While i appreciate great photographs and great stage compositions, none of these things are necessary to be successful.

I only care about the individual's  creativity, delivery and  style 'pulloffability ' their spirit and take on the world, everything else is just props/details. I speak for myself here, but i am more interested in what is going on with the person stylewise than everything else going on in the background.

Style is not about the clothes, it goes deeper . it is in the way the person lives ,thinks and processes the world. it doesn't have to be "fashionable' . it just has to come from within...people who like it will come back for more and if they don't, it shouldn't change the way you feel about yourself. don't spend time worrying about how to find fame and success through your blogging , focus on what you want to say, what you want to wear, who you want to be.

Find your own love and create your own success.  Be inspired but don't depend on the 'outside' world to influence everything you do or who aspire to be. instead of modeling yourself after someone else, look within yourself and focus on how you can be the best you. follow your heart , listen to yourself more, trust yourself and more importantly LOVE yourself and never be afraid to show it. don't dress for hype point or chic points, do it because you love it and it won't seem forced, those who get it will follow you without you having to convince them or overpromote yourself.

Now i am not here to discredit anyone or argue about who has 'it' and who doesn't. i am just trying to say fashion blogging needs to stop taking itself seriously and it may actually realize its potential.Fashion blogging will need to go beyond the hype to really be influential.

BOTSWANA FASHION WEEK 16-17 September

MIX AND MISS.Gatsh IT.

Fashion week has taken over the collective fashion conversation. it is everywhere, the designers, fashion list A'S, bloggers can't get enough of it..

in all this Fashion Week hoopla, who is really being represented? Whose fashion week is on the raider
weirdly enough African Fashion week seem to always go under the rader fashion season after fashion season. never the same hype, never with the same vigor and attention accorded to the rest. where are the globe trotting streetstyle bloggers capturing tons of photos of the sartorial bests of the  fashion insiders?

where are the fashion editors who for the past few fashion seasons have held OUR 'tribal, ethnic' trend hostage? where were the designers who in the last few seasons have adopted , appropriated, stolen African prints/wax/batics as their fabric of choice never  ever giving credit?
where were the popular fashion bloggers of influence who can fly all the way to  New Zealand ... can they not afford tickets to Africa? The whole thing bullish is just rude and disrespectful. i suppose Fashion is not supposed to be considerate, it is of the moment and lets face it for more than a few moments, Africa has never quite been 'of the moment'.

Botswana Fashion Week.I WON'T GO INTO DETAILS about my feelings and how A WEEKWEAK it was.I don't care it you are in a 3rd,2nd world,1st world country,in whatever you do make PHENOMENAL THE NORM,status more than anything else, that's all.
Well we not here to shoot anyone down, but recognise the days that were..the root of the designs..the inspiration behind the designs, just the designs, the designers
